Application Deadlines
Admission for international students is not done on a rolling basis. There are absolute deadlines for international students.
- Fall admission: January 31
- Spring admission: July 31
- Summer admission: November 15
Application Process
Please complete the SHRS online application. All academic documents must be official and sent via postal or express mail to SHRS Office of Admissions, 4020 Forbes Tower, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. Your academic documents are sent to the Office of International Services for evaluation of academic credentials. Applications are then sent to the SHRS Admissions Committee for review. You may log on to your online account to check the status of your application as we update it as documents are received. You will be notified of your decision online. The application process typically takes 6-8 weeks.
Verification of English Language Proficiency
International applicants must submit official TOEFL scores electronically through ETS to the University of Pittsburgh. The institutional code for the University of Pittsburgh is 2927. A minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the Internet-based test (550 on the Paper-based test) is required. IELTS scores are also accepted and must be mailed directly from the test provider to SHRS Office of Admissions, 4020 Forbes Tower, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. The minimum IELTS score is 6.5. Exemption: Applicants who have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or 2) citizens of a country where the official language is English.
Submission of GRE Scores
The institution code for the University of Pittsburgh is 2927. Scores may be submitted electronically through ETS or via postal or express mail.
Process of Issuing Visa Documents
Upon receiving an offer of admission, you will be requested to notify the school that you accept the offer of admission. At that time, you will be required to also complete and submit the International Graduate Student Supplemental Form, 2010-2011 which includes a Certification of Financial Responsibility. These documents must be sent via postal or express mail to SHRS Office of Admissions, 4020 Forbes Tower, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. If the financial support information is acceptable to the Office of International Services (OIS), a visa document is then prepared. Financial support documentation can be a bank statement or an official letter of support from a sponsor or a sponsoring agency. The letter should state the amount of money in U.S. dollars that will be provided per year. The Certification of Financial Resources is not required of students who have received a letter offering a full award from the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Pittsburgh. Please indicate in that section if you are receiving financial aid from the Department.
I-20 documents for fall admission are typically processed between April and May. You will be sent an email when your form is being sent along with a tracking number.
