New Opportunity for SHRS Students
A new master's program begins Fall 2009 in the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology. The Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics will take two years for students to complete.
The MSPO program will be the only one of its kind in the surrounding area and will prepare students for the American Board of Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics exams. Part of the curriculum includes one summer term and, as with most programs in SHRS, a clinical internship for students to acquire hands–on experience within the field.
Prosthetists and orthotists evaluate, design, and fit artificial limbs and orthopedic devices for patients to regain normal function for daily living. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the field is expected to grow over the next decade.
